SUMMER STAPLES: SHIRTS

SUMMER STAPLES: SHIRTS

Sometimes the importance of a good shirt can be overlooked; in summer, a good shirt can be the statement piece of your outfit, or just a cooler alternative to a coat or jacket on those warmer days. We’re going to go through what we think are the three KEY shirts you need for your summer wardrobe and how to style them!

THE CRAZY SHIRT
Even if it’s just for the summer or for going on holiday, everyone needs at least ONE crazy shirt in their wardrobe. You can throw a crazy shirt on with anything; a pair of jeans, some shorts, over a t-shirt, with a skirt, and your outfit will instantly be elevated with a splash of colour and a pop of pattern.  The other good thing about crazy shirts is that the WEIRDER they are the BETTER, plus it’s super easy to reflect who you are through a crazy shirt. If you’re into cars, there will be a crazy shirt with cars on out there, for example. When it comes to styling your crazy shirt, there truly are no rules, so get crazy with it!

THE POLO SHIRT
From fun to sophisticated, the trusty polo shirt can put the “chic” into any summer outfit. Whether you choose to put it with formal or casual wear, whatever you’re wearing will have an element of sophistication whilst paired with a polo shirt. Of course, you can make any sort of clothing item look more casual by getting it in a bigger, more oversized style and leaving it untucked if that’s more your style. If you’re wanting to create a really summery outfit with your polo shirt, we’d recommend going for pastel and neutral tones in your polo shirt and the things you pair it with. Polo shirts are also a really great alternative to formal shirts on warmer days, they keep you looking smart whilst keeping you cool!

THE CLASSIC SHIRT
You CAN NOT beat a classic shirt in the summer, whether it's plain white, just one colour, pin-striped or checked, your basic shirt can become such a staple in the summer months! You can use your classic shirt to dress up or down any outfit, and also as an extra layer instead of a coat or jacket. A basic light blue or pink shirt paired with some jeans and a t-shirt is the perfect outfit for days in the beer garden or for going to a barbecue. The gingham pattern you can get on shirts also gives a real summery vibe! A basic cotton shirt is useful if you’re prone to sunburn! It gives you a shield from the sun, but will still allow your skin to breathe and not make you too hot. Similarly to the polo shirt, a basic cotton shirt gives you a formal look whilst still allowing you to stay cool and not overheat on a hot day in the office.
