Cosy Season Staples

Cosy Season Staples

As we head from summer into Autumn, we wanted to put together a sort of guide for the transition from warmer weather to colder weather, and then colder weather to COLD weather. Basically, we think there are a few staple pieces that can carry you through the year as we transition from season to season. We’ll also give you a few styling tips so you can integrate these pieces into your wardrobe with the clothes you already have so you’re not having to buy a whole new wardrobe every-time the weather changes!

Hoodies

Now this may seem obvious, but just in case you don’t have any hoodies in your wardrobe, it’s definitely worth mentioning as they’re such a staple! Hoodies can be thrown on with an outfit if you need an extra layer but it’s still too warm for a coat. They’re also a great layering piece; they can be worn over things, under things and they always add a cool street style vibe to an outfit.

When it comes to the REALLY cold weather setting in, hoodies are great to chuck under coats and jackets, and even oversized shirts! There’s no right or wrong way to wear a hoodie, they’re just a staple you need in your wardrobe. And of course, they’re obviously perfect for those chilly days when all you want to do is stay inside and be comfy! They can also be used to casual up a more formal outfit.

Corduroy Trousers

Corduroy trousers are definitely overlooked by the masses. They’re such a good quality piece to have and can literally be worn ALL year round. They can be dressed up or down, worn with t-shirts in summer and big woolly jumpers in winter. Corduroy trousers are especially great for your wardrobe if you like wearing neutrals, as they tend to come in relatively neutral and muted colours (though there are some very fun and bright ones out there too if that’s more your vibe).

Nothing makes a nicer outfit in the autumn months than a pair of corduroy trousers paired with some boots, a jumper and a big chunky scarf. They’re a bit thicker than your average pair of jeans or trousers so they are very appropriate for the colder months. Though they can be dressed down, corduroy trousers can so easily be made to look super smart for any formal occasions you have. They’re also a great way of adding a bit more colour to an outfit instead of your standard blue or black jeans or trousers.

Cotton Jumpers

In our opinion, cotton jumpers are THE BEST layering and transitional piece there is. The fact they’re made of cotton makes them very suitable for summer as it keeps them lightweight and breathable. However, they are an absolute must-have for Autumn and Winter, as they are amazing for easily adding an extra layer to your outfits. They are also great at adding an element of sophistication to any outfit, perfect for work and more formal occasions.

They go great over shirts and polo shirts, but as they’re not too bulky, you can still put an ample amount of layers over them when it is getting colder without feeling restricted and claustrophobic. Another plus side to them not being too bulky is that you can also very easily tuck them into things. We’d always recommend having a few cotton jumpers to hand in pretty neutral colours that can easily be integrated into any outfits. For example, if you wear a lot of monochrome, we’d suggest having a black one and a grey one as you’d pretty much be able to introduce these colours to any of your outfits.

Lined Shirts

Lined shirts may not have been an item of clothing that you even know existed, but they do and they’re great! It’s basically a flannel/ lumberjack style shirt that comes with a thin, quilted lining. This makes it such a versatile and useful piece when it comes to transitioning through the seasons.

Similarly to the hoodie, they’re a great alternative to a coat or jacket if it’s not quite cold enough for such a thick layer. They’re also great for layering as you would with a normal shirt over t-shirts and jumpers and under coats and jackets. Layering an oversized lined shirt over a hoodie looks so cool and also provides optimal warmth! If you like your flannel shirts, a lined shirt is just a warmer version. They also look amazing for Autumn-vibe outfits as they create that real “lumberjack” look.

Joggers

Now of course joggers are definitely for more casual days, but it’s very easy to layer up joggers with certain things that you can definitely wear out and about and look very on trend. The pretty obvious plus side to wearing joggers is how comfy they are, no matter what the weather and what time of the year it is! Saying this, joggers are one of the cosiest pieces of clothing you can wear.

They are perfect for staying in and lounging around the house, but it’s definitely acceptable nowadays to dress them up and wear them as street fashion. Kim K even wears them with heels! Our favourite way to see a pair of joggers styled is with a hoodie layered with an oversized flannel shirt on top, a nice knitted hat and a pair of trainers or lace up boots. Also, chucking a trench coat on with a jogger set is the easiest way to feel comfy but look put together and smart.
