PROS to Second-Hand Shopping

PROS to Second-Hand Shopping

Being a second-hand online retailer, we are massive advocates for shopping second-hand, but our reasons for this aren’t just because we want to drive people towards our website. We truly believe that shopping second-hand is the BETTER way to shop, with the main benefits being for the consumer! This is why we are constantly aiming to improve, because we want to make sure people’s second-hand shopping experience is as good as it can be, because it’s a better way of shopping for consumers, as well as for the planet! It’s a no-brainer. So let us tell you WHY.

IT’S CHEAPER

Shopping second-hand is, more often than not, much cheaper than buying new clothes. It’s also worth noting that as we live in such a consumerist society, something that was brand-new on a shop shelf a week ago, may already be finding its way into second-hand shops or onto online re-selling platforms. Remember, just because an item of clothing is second-hand, it doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily ever been worn, it may not even have had the tags removed. Second-hand shopping is by far the best way of finding the more expensive and branded pieces on a budget! Plus it can be pretty fun hunting for a good bargain once you get into it.

Special Finds

Moving on from finding the best bits for cheaper, another great part of second-hand shopping is the amazing and unique pieces you can find. If you find something in a second-hand shop, it’s pretty unlikely that there is  another one of those pieces in there too, making that piece now unique to you. Plus, when you do find a piece you like, it’s all the more rewarding. What are the chances that you find this one item of clothing that you love AND that’s in your size? It’s meant to be! It also opens up the opportunity to find items that you would just not find on the highstreet these days, like hand-made pieces! Plus, if you’re into your vintage clothes, the second-hand scene is where you’re going to find them.

Quality

Speaking of vintage clothes, there’s a reason that such a big part of the second-hand market is made of pieces from past decades. In previous times, when we had a much less consumerist culture, clothes were made to last. This means you can pick up a jacket from the 70s, for example, and even though it’s been worn hundreds of times, that jacket could still last you a lifetime! Plus once you get your head around not having to buy new clothes all the time to stay on trend and get into the habit of looking after and re-wearing the clothes you already own, you might be surprised at just how long our clothes can last for.

The Environment

Now you know all the reasons as to why second-hand shopping can benefit YOU, let’s talk about how it can benefit the environment. (Which if you think about it, does benefit you as well because this is your planet, and it’s in your best interest to keep it going for as long as possible!) It’s no secret that we are in a bit of a scary climate crisis, but don’t worry. You can look at ALL aspects of how you live day-to-day and make changes that will reduce your carbon footprint and help save the planet. And if you love shopping, you’ll be happy to know that you can help save the planet by shopping too! By shopping second-hand you can reduce an item’s carbon footprint by 82%. By prolonging the life of an item by just 9 months, you can reduce its carbon, water AND waste footprint by 20-30%! Plus you’ll have a clear conscience while doing it.

So instead of going out and buying loads of new clothes and experiencing that horrible shopper’s guilt, let’s find some amazing and unique pieces, save ourselves some money and feel good for doing our bit for the environment. Happy second-hand shopping!
